Arctic Fox: Life on the Edge
of the World

FILM BY MAGDA SWIECKA

About the Project

This film is part of an ongoing long-term project focused on Arctic foxes and their adaptation to extreme environments. The project explores how these animals survive, interact and respond to changing conditions across the Arctic.
This chapter was filmed in Svalbard. The project will continue across different regions, including Iceland and potentially northern Canada and Greenland.

This is only the beginning of a longer story…

Survival in a Seasonal World

Life in Svalbard is defined by extremes.
Long periods of darkness give way to continuous daylight, and food can remain scarce for much of the year.

Arctic foxes are built for this environment, with dense winter fur and highly efficient hunting strategies.
Every movement is shaped by the need to survive.

In the High Arctic, survival is not guaranteed.

This film follows Arctic foxes through one of the most demanding environments on Earth, shaped by cold, light and constant change.

A story of adaptation, instinct and the fragile balance of life at the edge of the world.

Moments of Connection

With the arrival of spring, behaviour begins to shift.
Pairs form, calls carry across the tundra, and interactions become more frequent.

These moments reveal a different side of Arctic foxes.
Playful, vocal and social, they offer a rare glimpse beyond survival.
